Opening the Light to the WorldFrom the President

Synn Ilhi

As we welcome the new semester with the season of harvest approaching,

I extend my deep respect and gratitude to all faculty members and staff who have devoted themselves to preparing for the new semester despite the scorching summer heat.

Despite the severe heat experienced around the world, our students continued to shine by putting the spirit of Keimyung into practice both at home and abroad. A total of 178 members of our overseas volunteer corps, dispatched to five countries—Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan—put the values of love and sharing into action. Students in the Department of Sports Marketing brought honor to the name of Keimyung by winning the grand prize in a nationwide entrepreneurship competition. In addition, student-led startups at our university generated more than KRW 1 billion in sales, ranking first among universities outside the Seoul metropolitan area and fifth among private universities nationwide. The spirit of challenge demonstrated by the Keimyung community, which never wavers even amid the summer heat and winter cold, continues to bear valuable fruit beyond our campus.

Innovation aimed at strengthening the substance and quality of education has also proceeded steadily. We have expanded students’ freedom to choose their majors and activated the multi-major system through the introduction of microdegrees and the advancement of interdisciplinary education. In addition, we have implemented personalized, level-based education based on assessments of freshmen’s foundational academic abilities, while further strengthening our support system for student growth by creating an advanced learning environment grounded in AI and digital technologies. These innovations, undertaken proactively in response to changes in the educational environment, have led to greater student satisfaction with their academic experience and are becoming a firm foundation for enhancing the university’s competitiveness for the future.

At the same time, our university achieved the highest grade of S for two consecutive years in the Performance Evaluation of the University Innovation Support Project. This recognition reflects the continued efforts we have accumulated without becoming complacent with the achievements of a single year, and it has further strengthened the financial foundation supporting educational innovation. The establishment of the newly launched Center for Student Success to support students in designing their career paths, as well as the creation of an active-learning-based classroom environment in which professors and students learn together, were also recognized as meaningful achievements. These accomplishments once again reaffirmed the direction our university must continue to pursue without wavering.

These achievements, built up one by one over time, will inspire confidence in talented students who will choose Keimyung in the future. As we begin the new semester and the 2027 admissions process gets underway, I ask all members of the Keimyung family to come together in supporting our efforts to attract many talented students who will shape the future of Keimyung.

The mission of a university does not end with the transmission of knowledge. It must be a place where we seek answers to the questions posed by our times and reflect together on how to uphold the values that make us human. Our university will firmly preserve the traditions and values that must be protected, while moving forward with courage and without hesitation when we face challenges in response to the changing times. May God’s grace be with us throughout this journey, and may peace and blessings always be with all members of the Keimyung family and in your homes.
