On September 20, 2024, Keimyung University was selected for "2024 Industry-Specific Manpower Training Project " funded by Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. As a result, the project will be carried out with a total budget of 1.44 billion won over five years, starting from September.
This project focuses on improving the skills of employees working in the EV industry and the Daegu specialized complex, while also connecting with the mobility specialization complex in Daegu. Keimyung University will form a consortium with the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute (KIAPI) and Yeungjin University's cooperation group to carry out the project.
The consortium has established three major strategies focused on nurturing future mobility talent, centered around the key concepts of M.I.L.E. (Mobility, Integration, Local, and Expansion). These strategies include: "Building a sustainable electric vehicle education roadmap," "Training courses for technology advancement in Future Mobility Industry Demand (SDV)," and "Operating an open mobility campus-oriented education network." Over the next five years, the consortium plans to offer 13 curricula to cultivate 1,100 advanced professionals, making it the largest project of its kind.
This project provides an opportunity to cultivate key talents essential for infrastructure development and R&D promotion in Daegu's future mobility industry. It represents a significant step toward advancing the Daegu mobility sector. Notably, the professional training model proposed by the Keimyung University Consortium takes advantage of the mobility campus's location. By collaborating with leading mobility companies and innovative institutions in the region, synergy is expected to be created with tenant companies in the Technopolis and the nearby Daegu Industrial Complex.
Kim Eungho, Project Manager (Director of the Corporate Support Center) said, "This project reflects university's strengths in the mobility sector. We will create a system to match the supply and demand for technical manpower in this field, aligning it with student education. Our aim is to become a key university in the training of human resources."
Kim Beomjoon, Dean of Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, stated, “Daegu has already set up a network for developing the future mobility industry, and our university will play an important role by connecting RISE projects. We will enhance our educational capabilities by strengthening the campuses and creating a mobility software department. Additionally, we will develop a plan that benefits both the region and the university through industry-academic cooperation.”
Meanwhile, Keimyung University has run educational programs with over 4,500 employees participating in the past two years. In January, the university was recognized for its contributions to national industrial development by educating local employees and received the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Award. This acknowledgment highlights the university's excellence as an educational institution.
