the 6th Gukje Forum: Envisioning Tomorrow took place on May 29 at the auditorium at Dongsan Hall, Keimyung University's Daemyung Campus. It was organized as a venue to share experiences and visions of art perspectives closely related to the current era. Domestic and international guests from various art fields joined to expand global perspectives and foster the growth of next-generation talents.
the Gukje Forum began in 2012 to honor ‘Kuk-jae’ Jung Jeum-sik , a distinguished figure who made substantial contributions to the establishment and development of College of Fine Arts. Since its inception, the forum has been held every 2 years.
Foreign experts from various global art and design fields such as industrial design, visual arts, fashion, and architecture participated in past forums as speakers. The theme of this year's forum, 'Envisioning Tomorrow,' was organized to share diverse insights and perspectives in artistic fields. These fields achieve positive influence by converging and interacting with subjects such as science and humanities in new ways amid diversified prospects for the future.
Three guest speakers took the spotlight to present at the event, with lectures and discussions following. Shim Sang-Yong, a professor at Seoul National University College of Fine Arts, gave the keynote speech. He was followed by Kim Yoon-Jip, Director of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, who presented on 'A Response to Social Change.' Lastly, Son Ji-Yoong, Senior Designer at Nordkapp, discussed 'A Three-Step Process of Drawing the Future.'
In commemoration of Keimyung University’s 125th anniversary, this year’s Gukje Forum was held to highlight significant contributions to the Korean art industry. The event also aimed to nurture next-generation art talents through the 'Kuk-jae' Jung Jeum-sik special exhibition, the 1st Keimyung Gukje Art Awards Ceremony, and College of Fine Arts students’ display.
Fourteen (14) abstract pieces, showcasing the art of the 1980s and 90s, were displayed at the WHITE Gallery in the Gukje Art Museum, located at Keimyung University's Daemyung Campus. The exhibition captured the attention of local residents and students during the 'Kuk-jae' Jung Jeum-sik special exhibition. Concurrently, at the BLACK Gallery, Kim Seoul held a solo exhibition as the winner of the ‘1st Keimyung Gukje Art Awards’, showcasing a total of 16 works. Additionally, Exhibition Room 3 featured a comprehensive display of 60 paintings, including various artworks from the 10 departments of Collage of Fine Arts, encompassing crafts, fashion, industry, and visual arts.
Kim Yun-hee, Dean of College of Fine Arts, stated, “The 6th Gukje Forum recognized the convergence and academic integration across various art fields within today's society. By sharing diverse visions, we held this forum to prepare the next-generation art talents with a more expansive perspective.'
the 'Kuk-jae' Jung Jeum-sik special exhibition, Kim Seoul’s solo exhibition, and College of Fine Arts students’ display will be held from May 28 to June 5 at the Gukje Art Museum. Admission is open on weekdays and weekends.
