The 125th Anniversary Celebration, held at the Adams Chapel on Keimyung University's Seongseo Campus, took place on Monday, May 20, 11:00 AM. At the celebration, 94 professors and employees were awarded the Keimyung Gold Medal, Bisa Professor Award, Honorary Award, Outstanding Achievement Award, Exemplary Award, Keimyung University Publishment Award, Global Professorial Excellence Award, and Student Mentorship Award.
In his commemorative speech, President Synn addressed, 'The 125-year-old Keimyung University has a rich history. In addition to celebrating the 100th anniversary of nursing education, we mark the 70th anniversary of its establishment as a four-year university, and the 50th anniversary of being selected as the Ministry of Education's experimental university, which laid the foundation for what it is today. Moreover, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 'Sharing 1% Love in Commandments' initiative, making us the only university in the nation to practice donation and dedication by deducting 1% from all faculty salaries. Keimyung University, established in the challenging times of Dalgubeol, once a barren landscape for higher education and medical services, has grown alongside the region over the past 125 years. We are committed to addressing the region's challenges and furthering our educational and medical missions, thereby enhancing our university's global reputation. As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, let us reflect deeply on what we can pass on to the future generations, who will continue to illuminate our university.'
After the 125th Anniversary Celebration, the opening ceremony of the Keimyung History Museum took place at Baekhak Hall on Keimyung University's Daemyung Campus. Photographs dating back to 1954, when the site of Keimyung University was established in Daemyung-dong, were displayed, providing the public with an opportunity to explore the history and journey of Keimyung University.
In 2014, Keimyung University decided to use the term 'foundation' instead of 'opening' to reflect its shared history with Dongsan Medical Center, affiliated with Keimyung University. This decision was made in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of their foundation in 1980.
