President of Keimyung University, receives honorary citizen at Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary

 

- President of Keimyung University, was awarded honorary citizen at Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary for contributing to the encouragement of cultural understanding between Korea and Hungary.

 Synn Ilhi, President of Keimyung University, was awarded honorary citizen at Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.

 The honorary citizenship bestowing ceremony took place on May 2, 2024, at 3:30 PM Central European Time (CET). It was held at the Károlyi-Csekonics Palace, where guests were received by Rector László Trócsányi, Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs Péter Balla, and Dean Géza Horváth. Professors, students, including the dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, were also present. Hong Kyu-dok, the Ambassador of the Embassy of Republic of Korea to Hungary, and Mózes Csoma, Head of the Korean Department and former Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Korea, attended to express their congratulatory remarks. President Shin participated in the event virtually, whereas Kim Seon-jung, Vice President for International Affairs, along with other distinguished officials, were present in person.

 László Trócsányi, Rector of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, remarked, “President Synn Ilhi has greatly contributed to fostering cultural understanding through various exchange activities with several universities in Hungary, including our own.” He continued, “In honor of these achievements, we are pleased to present President Synn with an honorary citizenship at Károli Gáspár University.” After introducing the honors, he obtained an honorary citizenship given on behalf of Kim Seon-jung, Vice President for International Affairs.

 In his online valedictory speech, President Synn expressed his gratitude, stating, “As united we stand, and divided we fall, 'unity' is the only solution for mankind to live together. Budapest is already an exemplary and beautiful city model, formed from the amalgamation of two different cities, 'Buda' and 'Fest'. I am honored to become an honorary citizen at Károli Gáspár University, and eagerly await the contemplation of collaboration between our two universities in the future.”

 "Keimyung University regularly exchanges faculty with Károli Gáspár University through the Erasmus+ program, an initiative by the EU to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. Over the past 10 years, nearly 100 students from both universities have participated in its exchange programs. Additionally, starting this year, Keimyung University has become a Korea-Overseas e-School, sending Korean language and studies-related courses to Károli Gáspár University.
